printing the Euro

Euro Printing
printing the euro symbol
Before its final design was introduced less than three years ago, the Euro symbol did not even exist. Today, with the Euro symbol included on keyboards and in the most recent applications, printing it - especially on older printer models - is often the cause of unexpected problems. The user enters the symbol from the keyboard, sees the symbol on the screen, and has no problems printing, but instead of the Euro symbol, the printed document includes a square, a blank or another character. Addressing these issues proactively prevents frustrated users, and avoids potential legal issues.
how euro-printing solutions work
Many HP printers have built-in printer fonts and instead of downloading, the computer selects the font on the printer, saving time and network traffic. Older printers are not aware of the Euro symbol, causing the problems described above.
For PCL5 or PCL6 printer drivers on Windows, download the latest driver. If you are using a Postscript printer driver, install the up-to-date TrueType fonts, using the HP FontSmart software on the CD-ROM that came with your printer. In either case, the drivers will no longer use built-in printer fonts, solving the problem.
If you are printing from SAP, DOS, UNIX or other host applications you will have to upgrade your printer with a hardware module (SIMM or DIMM) that replaces or updates the built-in printer fonts.
Of course, instead of upgrading your old printer, you could replace it with a brand-new HP LaserJet printer. The Landscape Group can give details of the attractive trade-in programs that exist.
